Facebook launches Messenger App for Windows

After launching the Messenger Apps for various mobile platforms such as iOS, Android and the BlackBerry, it seems like Facebook now wants us to experience its Messenger App on our desktops as well. The company has officially released the Messenger client for Windows that lets users chat with their buddies through their computers. Users don’t have to go through the entire process of first launching the main Facebook app and then look for who all have sent messages to them. The Messenger App basically brings the side-bar that you see on the right side of the Facebook page on your desktop. It also has the Message, Friend Request and Notifications icon on the top and if you click on the ticker, you’ll be redirected to Facebook.com.

Click here to download this app on your Windows PC.

Facebook Is Tracking Your Every Move on the Web; Here’s How to Stop It

Over the weekend, Dave Winer wrote an article at Scripting.com explaining how Facebook keeps track of where you are on the web after logging in without your consent. Nik Cubrilovic dug a little deeper, and discovered that Facebook can still track where you are, even if you log out. Facebook, for its part, has denied the claims. Regardless of who you believe, here's how to protect yourself, and keep your browsing history to yourself.

Google+Facebook extension adds Facebook right into Google+

A new extension Google+Facebook adds your Facebook newsfeed right into Google+. As you can see in the screenshot above, a Facebook icon is placed right next to the home icon at the top of the page. While it doesn’t give you all the functionality of Facebook, it’s a nice tool to have to update your status and check out the latest news from your friends that haven’t moved to Google+.

Facebook unveils prettier interface, group chat and Skype video calling

Facebook’s boss Mark Zuckerberg appeared today before the crowd of journalists summoned at the company’s Palo Alto headquarters to reveal new Facebook features designed to tackle the Google+ threat. He began by saying that the industry is quickly approaching an inflexion point where focus will be on apps rather than the number of registered users. Facebook has over 750 million users, he said. Facebook is hoping to zoom past the one billion mark in the near future, he said, predicting that the social networking industry at large will soon measure its user base in billions.

How to Permanently Delete a Facebook Account

Facebook makes it pretty easy to deactivate your account which will temporarily hide your information. However, if you want to permanently remove your information, the "permanent delete" option is much harder to find. This article will cover two easy ways to erase your Facebook account so you can Quit Facebook forever.

Steps

Before You Start

1. Remove Facebook Connect logins. Many sites, like Digg.com and Meetup.com, allow signup and login using Facebook Connect -- List of Facebook Connect sites (may not be complete or current.) If you have accounts on such sites, go to each of them, and
  • Make sure you have a way to login that does not involve Facebook Connect (you will most likely have to create a username and password on the site if you haven't already.)
  • Logout of the account, then log back in using the alternate method (not using Facebook Connect), ensuring that you will be able to access the account after your Facebook account is deleted.
2. Remove all Linked Accounts so that you won't accidentally login to Facebook.
